Easy-to-Make Tropical Rainstick
A wonderful sensory project for kids and crafts are a great way to work on fine motor skills as well!
You'll need:
- Heavy cardboard tube, different sizes are fine too!
- Caps for the end or duct tape
- Seeds, pebbles, dried rice or other filler
- Pretty paper to cover or brown paper you can decorate with coloring, painting, yarn or stickers!
Directions:
- For older children you can push in nails no longer than the width of the tube throughout the tube this creates the "trickle" effect and great sound!
- Cover one end of the tube and all of the nail area with tape, clear mailing tape or duct tape is fine
- Pour in beans, lentils, seeds, etc. You don't need a lot!
- Cap off the over end with good tape
- Cover with brown wrapping material (bags or found at dollar tree in a roll)
- Tape on the brown wrapping material
- Decorate the tube with colors, yarn, stickers, paints, whatever!
For younger children that can't help with the nails you can make shakers:
- Decorate your tube.
- Seal off one end.
- Add handfuls of your filler material. Seal off the other end.
- Try different things inside and different size tubes. Turn up and down slowly.
This is a simple craft even little ones can do.
This is a wonderful sensory craft. Young children love the sound and sensations this makes.
